Help Fund Our
Literacy Champions
FIA Oakland families are pushing hard to make change at home, at school, and citywide. We know that family voice is needed at all levels for systems change. But we need your help.

Accomplished So Far
Since 2022, we have cultivated Family Literacy Champions, which trains underserved parents and caregivers to understand reading data and strategies, to reteach what they learned with families in their school, and to partner with teachers and school leaders to take school-wide leadership to change literacy outcomes.
Across nine elementary schools,
- Over 250 Family Literacy Champions have graduated from our Lit 4 Literacy Fellowships.
- Our Family Literacy Champions are organizing in nine schools in our city, benefitting 3,600 TK-5 students.
But more Oakland students and schools deserve empowered Family Literacy Champions!
We can expand our innovative model to more schools with your support. Our Family Literacy Champions get 1:1 coaching, and this year we are investing in teacher leaders for family partnership in our schools
With your support, FIA can onboard more Family Literacy Champions and teacher leaders.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic, the achievement gap has widened for our Black and Bro students and families. However, we know we need innovative solutions to break out of cycles of low academic achievement. We need to tap into the inherent power leadership of Black and Brown families. We need to train a new generation of teachers to create powerful academic partnerships with families.
