Family Power Showing Big Impact at the Polls!

Dear FIA community,

While it’s still early, and with thousands of votes left to count, we want to acknowledge what is shaping up to be a win for the city of Oakland. FIA for Justice endorsed candidates are on pace to capture five of the nine seats that were up for election! You should be proud of your work and efforts to support strong and thoughtful leaders for our city and our schools. It really paid off. Our voice was heard and our impact is undeniable!

We want to offer early congratulations to Patrice Berry (D5 School Board), Clif Thompson (D7 School Board), and Zac Unger (D1 City Council), Noel Gallo (D5 City Council), and Ken Houston (D7 City Council). These leading candidates, who align with FIA4J’s values and commitment to increasing access to high quality, equitable and excellent education, have established sizable leads in their races and are on track to be your representatives for the next four years.

Big shout out to the FIA4J parents and youth who showed up to flex their civic power in the 2024 elections! FIA4J leaders….

Interviewed 10 candidates in Research Action Meetings
Organized the largest candidate forum with Oakland school board and city council candidates with over 250 in the audience
Hosted the ONLY Oakland parent and youth-led forum
Educated communities about the local elections and registered new voters across 30 Oakland schools
Hosted 10 Get Out the Vote phone banks
