Greetings, FIA community,
2024 was a memorable year for Oakland public education and FIA, and we accomplished a lot! Families, students, and educators came together during the election season to build power through canvassing, research action meetings with candidates, and hosting our city’s largest candidate forum. From the Get on the Bus Lit4Literacy Legislative Tour to the passage of a bold resolution to double proficiency for Black and Brown students, these victories show what’s possible when families, educators, and community leaders come together. It’s been a year of powerful parent leadership, student advocacy, and collective action—and none of this would have been possible without the incredible energy and commitment of Oakland’s families.
