Science-based, reading goals, and data
In session 1, we hope to partner with parents to support their child(ren) to achieve literacy outcomes using a science-based approach to instruction. The 4 key takeaways of this session include:
1. To invite parents to be key partners in Hoover Literacy Campaign.
2. To apply reading comprehension practices at home.
3. To introduce Hoover’s reading data, science based reading instruction
4. To develop our agency as parent leaders by sharing our stories of self.
Student data & Strategies
In session 2, parents will understand Hoover’s reading standards and achievement milestones, and are able to identify their child’s reading level as well as benchmarks/milestones/strategies for improvement. The three key takeaways from this session include:
1. To develop our agency as parent leaders by sharing our “Stories of Us”.
2. To understand your student’s reading data in relationship to grade level expectations
3. To practice reading comprehension practices so you can take action at home to help your child reach grade level.
Home-school literacy partnership
In Session 3, there are 4 priorities
1.Celebrate our progress in home reading and literacy activities.
2. To model + practice for parent conferences
3. To build on your story of self and us with the “story of now” and to introduce the principle “Structures Channel Power”
4. To practice Timed Reading Fluency to continue building our children’s reading skills
Leading literacy at home and school
In session 4, parents will understand the various components of learning to read, can identify a developmental path for their child; and can begin to articulate a shared story of now that creates urgency and action.
