Over 250 powerful parents, students, community members, and school board members came together to hear from District 5 school board candidates at the 2023 FIA Candidate Forum on September 28, 2023. It was the largest parent and youth-led candidate forum in Oakland with over 20 district and charter schools gathering at Lazear Charter Academy in the heart of the Fruitvale. Oakland parents and students grabbed the mic and asked the candidates the tough questions about their views and vision for Oakland public schools. Now it’s time to harness our momentum and make sure people are informed and ready to cast their vote. Ballots start arriving in mailboxes next week and need to be postmarked by November 7.
