County Superintendent & Board Trustee, Area 7

Dear FIA Community,

Nearly all of us are residents of Alameda County, meaning we are likely eligible to vote in the June 7 election. Ballots are being sent to registered voters this week. Even with some big races on the ballot, the turnout is expected to be low. So remember, every vote counts!

Why do these seats matter so much?

The Alameda County Superintendent is responsible for fiscal oversight of school districts and oversees the office that works on charter school matters, including appeals and renewals. Currently in Oakland, Yu Ming, Alternatives in Action, Cox Academy, Lazear Academy, Aurum Prep, Community School for Creative Education, Oakland Unity Middle, Envision Academy and Urban Montessori charter schools are authorized by the ACOE school board. LK Monroe currently serves as Superintendent.

The Alameda County Trustees also govern many important county-run programs for our more vulnerable youth like pregnant teens, alternative education and formerly incarcerated youth.

There are TWO HOTLY contested races (for County Superintendent of Schools and Trustee Area 7 Livermore/TriValley). Two seats are uncontested (Area 4 San Leandro, Area 1 North Oakland/Berkeley/Livermore).

We encourage you all to do your research and ensure you vote in these critical elections. Ballots are due June 7, 2022.
