We are excited to launch FIA’s Winter Leadership Institute 2023, a coalition of family and youth leaders from across Oakland charter and district schools. Join a community of leaders who are committed to lifting our voices, sharing our stories, and fighting to increase access to quality schools for all of Oakland’s students.

Institute Information:
By joining our program, you are not only investing in your child’s future but also taking a significant step towards becoming a literacy advocate within your family and community.
In session 1: Leaders will get grounded in their own personal as well as our collective power credential by updating our Story of Self and Story of Us with the latest organizing efforts and most recent student data.
Oakland’s Shifting Political Environment
In session 2: Leaders will learn the major shifts in the political environment concerning public education in Oakland and to begin to brainstorm strategies for FIA organizing.
What is at stake with ACOE?
In session 3: Leaders will learn about the importance of the Alameda County Board of Education, who serves, their role with charters as well as who is up for election this Spring, who is influencing the election and what impact the election may have on charter schools.
Action- February ACOE Forum
In session 4: Leaders will learn about the elements of a successful public action and for the leadership team to present a plan for action (recommendations for action, action agenda, and clarifying questions) to be affirmed by the institute membership
