Free Money for College: Financial Aid Guide for Oakland Families

Navigating financial aid can be a little spooky, but with the right guidance and support families and students can learn about different resources to make college affordable. We all know college can be expensive, but Go Public Schools just released a new Parent’s Guide to Financial Aid to ease your concern by showing you how affordable college can be through financial aid.

Parents and Students, don’t miss this vital information on how you can get free money for college from Go Public Schools’ CEO Darcel Sanders.

Dear FIA community,
I’m excited to share that A Parent’s Guide to Financial Aid is back again!

We first released A Parent’s Guide to Financial Aid two years ago in response to the questions and concerns we heard from students and families about financial aid in the communities we serve. We leveraged our years of work with parents and champions to create a family-facing resource that attempts to demystify the complex world of financial aid, including how to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the California Dream Act Application (CADAA).
This year’s guide features FAFSA and CADAA updates for the 2022-23 award year, information about new legislation impacting financial aid eligibility, an expanded Cal Grant section, and a new tool to help families have early and honest conversations about the cost of college. You can download the guide in both English and Spanish.

I remember all too well how nervous I was to apply for financial aid. My family and I were left to navigate paying for college without support, and I know so many others share my experience. It is my sincerest hope that A Parent’s Guide to Financial Aid is useful to you or families you know who have questions about college costs, the application process, or who just need a reminder that they are not alone on this journey.
