Greetings Families in Action,
Every 10 years, the census counts people across our neighborhoods, city, state and country. The census information is used to update the boundaries for important elected offices like school board districts, city council districts, county school board, congressional districts, etc.
This email allows you to see the options being proposed for new school board and city council districts in Oakland. We encourage you to get informed! Get involved! Lift your voice!
The Oakland Redistricting Commission is tasked with setting new district boundaries for the City Council and School Board by December 31, 2021.
What is Redistricting?
Redistricting is the process of drawing new boundaries for congressional, state, and local districts. Redistricting occurs every 10 years, after the completion of the U.S. Census. The Oakland Redistricting Commission will redraw the boundaries for the City Council and Oakland Unified School Board districts. The California Citizens Redistricting Commissions is responsible for congressional and state districts.
